Extended Holiday Return Policy

For gifts purchased on Theory.com on or after November 1, 2017 through December 25, 2017 we will gladly accept returns for a full refund within 30 days of receipt or January 15, 2018, whichever is later.  For gifts purchased outside of the time frame, our standard return policy applies.

Return Policy

Theory.com accepts returns received within 30 days from date of receipt on items that are unused, unworn and have their original tags attached. Final Sale items are not eligible for return. Please allow 7 business days for shipping transit time.

Return by Mail

Once your package is ready for shipment, you may drop it off at the nearest Post Office or FedEx location. You can also schedule a USPS pickup here.
*In order to expedite the return process please drop off your return package at a FedEx location.
Returns will be processed within 3-5 business days of receipt.
Refunds should appear on your account within 3-5 business days after processing.
We do not assume responsibility for reimbursement or compensation in the event that a return package is lost, stolen, or mishandled.  We reserve the right to refuse return of any merchandise that does not meet our return requirements.


Items purchased as "FINAL SALE" are not eligible for return, exchange or credit without exception and merchandise is sold as is. Promotions including coupons and promo codes, cannot be applied to Final Sale purchases.


If you would like to exchange your item, please return the item you wish to exchange and place a new order on our site.


Theory offers complimentary standard alterations on the following full-price merchandise (except leather, suede and beaded fabrics) purchased in a retail store and on Theory.com.

Men's and Women's pants-hems, including cuffed bottoms
Men's and Women's jacket-sleeves, at cuff only (not from shoulder)
Skirts-straight hems

This offer is not available on any sale items.  Alterations can only be processed and completed in retail stores.

Return to Theory Retail Store

New and unused merchandise may be exchanged or returned for a refund in the original form of payment at a Theory retail store accompanied by an online invoice within 30 days of receipt. Theory.com merchandise cannot be returned to any Theory Outlet locations.

Shoes and handbags purchased at Theory.com can only be returned via mail and cannot be returned to retail stores.

Items Purchased at Other Locations

Items purchased at retail stores, department stores or any other store selling Theory merchandise may not be returned to Theory.com.

Theory Retail Store Purchases

We will happily accept return or exchange merchandise in its original and unused condition, providing the tags are attached and accompanied by an original receipt within 14 days of purchase at any Theory Retail store. Theory Retail store merchandise cannot be returned to a Theory Outlet location. We will issue a refund in the form and amount tendered for the original transaction excluding cash purchases. Cash purchases may only be returned for store credit. All merchandise accompanied by a gift receipt may be exchanged or returned for store credit within 30 days of original purchase date. Gift card sales are final and may not be returned. All sale items, swimwear, intimates, jewelry, third party items and special order items are final sale and may not be returned or exchanged.

Theory Outlet Store Purchases

We will happily accept exchanges or give store credit for products returned in original condition with all tags attached when accompanied by a receipt within 14 days of purchase at any Theory Outlet store. Theory Outlet merchandise cannot be returned to Theory Retail locations. There will be no cash or credit card refunds. All sale items, shoes and accessories are final sale.
